Android’s functional and aesthetic improvements are good for Apple and the mobile industry as a whole. As iOS users, you don’t have to like the directions Google is taking their platform, but you should respect that the innovations Google brings to phones and tablets will in some way shape the direction the the entire industry goes moving forward.

So what’s going on?

It’s already 3 weeks++ I finished my studies at PASUM (Foundation Studies In Science, University of Malaya). One year in PASUM was a good experience for me to gain knowledge and meet new friends there. I don’t know how to thank them especially to Physical Science students. Without their support, I can’t do my responsibilities as Ketua Fizikal. I know it sounds funny because I was selected as their representative.

Next plan,

Obviously I’m working part-time to finish my 5 months study break. My job scope are in marketing and branding. I know it sounds easy, but for me the job is challenging and it can help me to improve my soft skills etc. I just work to gain new experience even though at night I do freelance works. Opps (!)

Just a random post. This time I used Illustrator to draw this so called vector icon.

Basically my midsem break will ends tomorrow. Still in “holiday” mood, I am not ready to start back my daily routines at college; doing tutorials all day long, go to classes from 8.00 am – 5.00 pm just to name a few.

This midsem break was not really fun enough but I enjoyed every seconds of it.

I managed to code two simple HTML/CSS designs + a halfway PSD mockup. Besides, I have learned about Tumblr’s themes structure a little bit.

Anyhow, the above screenshot just a preview of Wunderlist application. Currently available for Mac, iPhone and Windows platform and they plan to support it in Android platform too! For me, you should give a try because it can helps you in organizing your to-do list.

What is Angry Birds?

Angry Birds is a puzzle video game developed by Finland-based Rovio Mobile, in which players use a slingshot to launch birds at pigs stationed on or within various structures, with the intent of destroying all the pigs on the playfield. Inspired by a simple sketch of stylized wingless birds, the game was first released for Apple’s iOS in December 2009. Since that time, over 12 million copies of the game have been purchased from Apple’s App Store, which has prompted the company to design versions for other touchscreen-based smartphones, including those using the Android and the Symbian^3 operating systems. 3-month left before we end our studies here, at beloved PASUM.

After that, we have five months break before we start back our studies in different level (not in foundation level anymore). Some of us will continue degree at University of Malaya while others may choose other IPTA/IPTS to pursue their tertiary educations.

Welcome 2011, Bye² 2010! Let bygone be bygone.

• Managed to continue my study in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS on 16th January. It was January Intake which we called it as JAN10 batch. Also a fast track for SPM 2009 students.
• Registered this domain (www.syamey.com) on 17th February. This domain mainly used for blogging and web development purposes.
• SPM 2009 results was announced on 11th March. Alhamdulillah, satisfied with my results eventhough it was not excellent like others.
• April was the busiest month for me. It used to be a month of scholarships and interviews for SPM 2009 students. Thank god, I was called for MARA PILN interview at Ipoh, Perak.
• It was a ‘depress’ month for me in May 2010. Due to the stupidity of PETRONAS new policies, I quited from UTP. Not to blame UTP but it was PETRONAS faults. Heck, I continued my study in University of Malaya.
• June was used to be month of World Cup. Nothing interesting happened during this month except I was ‘randomly’ selected by Mr Zack to be Physical Science President.
• In July, I started back developed Leopard Mods On 7 this time. But due to the other commitments, I postponed this project until further notice will be announced.
• Mid-semester exam during this month. August also was a hectic month for me especially on my study and client’s web development project.
• Got Eid ul-fitr in September. There was my father’s ex-schoolmate gathering on 3rd Syawal at Sungai Petani, Kedah. I also managed to install Nokia C6 firmware in my Nokia 5800 XM.
• October, 2 of my designs were selected to be included in LinuxMint 10 wallpapers, both in Linux and KDE platform. Sell out my Nokia 5800XM to be an Android user!
• Finished my semester 1 in PASUM during this month. November seems to be the best month for me to sharpen my design and coding skills.
• Setup my first online store on 7th December. The store mainly sell premium world flags icon for application/web developers use in their projects. Sell at $7 with 188 high quality icons.

So that were my achievements in 2010. Bukan nak menunjuk atau bangga diri, but it can be used for my inspiration to keep success in 2011.

It was last minute plan since I just knew that my class on the evening not start yet. So we filled up our time which these activities.

Ah, sorry for the pictures post. I want to elaborate more but yeah I am still tired. Pardon me and tomorrow I have marathon around campus. So I need to recover my energy back.

Remember what I have posted last month ago? If not, go and read it! Haha.

Initially I made some of the icons for myself. Just for the sake of Photoshop learning process. When I posted 3 of the icons (Thailand, Malaysia & Singapore) in my blog post, many of the readers (maybe!) asked for me to release these as a set. I was surprised because there are a lot these kind of icons out there especially in GraphicRiver.

So I started to collect all the country flags’ images from A to Z.

Why it become Premium? Err, I mean paid version.

Basically I want to release it as a free download. But based on my experience, my previous World Flags in deviantART was be used for commercial projects either in iPhone/iPad applications and HTML/CSS themes etc. So it is unfair when we released it as a free download but other people used it for money.

Future plan..

Don’t worry, I will release some part of this icon pack as freebies with some limitations such as small resolutions etc. So just wait until further notice.

Playing around with tones in Photoshop make us become satisfied with the outcome result. Still newbie, this is my first attempt in photography editing. Haha.

I just ported my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic to Nokia C6 firmware last 2 days. From the latest firmware (5800 v51.0.006 -> C6 v11.0.0029), the symbian OS S60 5th GUI looks differently on the “new” Nokia 5800XM. The applications, music player, web browser etc – run perfectly even though there are still minor bugs in it.

If you have ever wondered how to customize your Nokia 5800XM to look like Nokia C6 Symbian OS interface, here’s the quick and simple instructions on exactly how to do it. It’s easier than you think.

To make it short, lets begin:

1st Step: Make sure you have the following;

1. Nokia 5800 XpressMusic with RM-356 type. *Check it by pressing *#0000#.
2. Cable with driver installed. *For flashing purpose.
3. Download appropriate files. *C6’s firmware off course.
4. Nokia Ovi Suite / PC Suite. *For backup purpose.

2nd Step: Flashing process;

1. Download Navifirm from here. *This small application is needed to download original firmware of your phone.
2. Next, download Nokia Flash Tools archive files with contains JAF Tools and JAF PKEY Emulator.
3. Extract the Navifirm Anywhere with the use of any zip archiver and run it. *You should have Dotnet Framework 2.0 installed in your pc.
4. Download the original firmware from your phone using Navifirm. *Make sure you select the correct phone model with correct RM-XXX type. (Nokia 5800XM with RM-356 in this case) IMPORTANT STEP!
5. Install Nokia Ovi Suite / PC Suite if you don’t have it installed already. *Cable drivers are installed with them and needed.
6. Now if you have already downloaded the firmware from the Navifirm, paste all the files to C:\Program Files\Nokia\phoenix\products\RM-356\ *If the directory doesn’t exist, create it manually.
7. Next, extract Nokia Flash Tools that you have downloaded. Install the JAF Tool and now copy the Jaf_nok4models.ini file and Pkey_emulator.exe file to C:\Program Files\Odeon\JAF\.
8. Now, paste the C6’s firmware and replace the files in C:\Program Files\Nokia\phoenix\products\RM-356\ folder.
9. A custom firmware mostly use 3 files (ROFS2, ROFS3 and UDA).
10. Run JAF PKEY Emulator application.
11. Make sure to tick “Random PKEY Raskal SN” and “JAF Main”. IMPORTANT STEP! Then, click Go button in step 3.
12. Once JAF Tool is open, go to “BB5″ tab.
13. Tick “Manual Flash”, “Dead USB”, “Normal mode” and “use INI”. *Leave other fields UN-TICK. IMPORTANT STEP!
14. After you tick “use INI”, select the phone which you want to flash and connect it to your pc after switching it off.>
15. Next, go to RM-356 folder. Rename “RM-356_51.0.006_prd.core.C00″ to “RM-356_51.0.006_prd.core.c0r”. *Without quote (“). IMPORTANT STEP!
16. Back to the JAF PKEY Emulator, on the BB5 tab, click “MCU” (Under flash setting). It will ask to replace the current file. So, replace it with “RM-356_51.0.006_prd.core.C0r” file.
17. Do the same step with “PPM” and “APE Variant”. Do not click on “CNT” as we do not have to replace this file. (PPM, replace it with “RM-356_51.0.006_prd.rofs2.V01″ file and APE Variant with “RM-356_51.0.006_026_000_U01.uda.fpsx” file). Check it many times as this step really IMPORTANT!
18. When everything is done, click “on Flash”. *This step will start flashing your phone.
19. Then click “Yes” when a dialog appears.
20. Now just press the Power Button on your phone a little. *Hold on about 1 second only.
21. Flashing will start and will complete soon and you will see a “Done” message in JAF window.

3rd Step: Post-flashing process;

1. Now remove your phone and take out the battery. After that, put it back and start your phone. *You need to setup a setting once your phone is start up.
2. When home screen is appear, wait until all installation is successful.
3. Do hard reset to make sure your phone is bug free. *Press *#7370*. If it ask for security code, just insert 12345 as it is a default factory code from Nokia.

Taadaa! You are done. Now you can enjoy “Nokia C6″ in your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

PRODIGY | Class of 2009 SBPIJ official website is my third website, developed in December 2008 using Joomla! 1.0 as Content Management System (CMS). It was developed after my old blog and TechnoFlash Official Site, when I and my schoolmates planned to have a community-based website to discuss about our batch related things to education problems.

Early development of this site, I only invited some of my ‘geek’ friends to become a beta tester. Thank God, this site softly launched in the mid of December 2008.

On the framework, I’ve used a lot of components and plug-ins. Some are free and paid components. These are;

• Commercial Malaysian-made community system, Jomsocial by Azrul. I’ve used their JomComment component too.
• Kunena (known as Fireboard) as forum.
• CometChat software as chat system.
• MyBlog from Azrul as blogging system.

Honestly, due to the some internal problems I need to move it to a self-hosted server. Until now, this site has been shared with school’s server since December 2008. Yeah, we have planned about this before and also came out with a super-cool domain name, but hey, anybody want to support us?

Our batch’s website ‘ate’ a lot of bandwidth everyday.

3 years ago, I was a desk-modder. I love to customize my OS, Windows XP to a Mac look alike OSX until I developed a mods pack for it. With the help of ResHacker, StyleBuilder and other resources, I managed to released it to public through deviantART. Yeah, it was 3 years ago story.

Well, today I started back. I’m planning to release a new visual style/theme for Windows 7. The main idea is to develop a new theme that mimics OSX interface, but still keeping the originality of Aero interface. Oh ya, the above screenshot is the current theme that I’m currently working. Keep alert and stay tuned.

Leopard Mods On XP will be updated to fit Windows XP SP3. And this will be the final version.

It is useful sometimes when you are desperately to browse on what you have tweeted especially on useful stuffs, or even a bookmarked on certain websites. To date, Twitter Search does not really helpful for me when I wanted to browse my own tweets especially two years ago.

By coincidentally, I stumbled upon on Teddy-risation twitter archive. The idea to set up my own tweets archive has came out when it can saves a lot of time on browsing, and of course it can also backup my precious previous tweets too. *Just in case especially on instability of Twitter nowadays.

To setup your own twitter archive is not really hard. stopdesign has developed a theme files for WordPress just for a convenient use. Step-by-step instruction was well written to guide you as easy as ABC. 

I am here in University of Malaya, and I am busy with my studies. How do I feel about that? Well, school work is kicking my backside but I have never been any happier, professionally, than I am today. I know I will never be a champion in Physics or even Calculus class, but I am being the best that I can be. And that is thanks to the one thing I keep telling myself.

I am not here to study. I am here to learn.

And I am learning a heck of a lot. The number of influential people that I have spoken to, met, listened to and learned from in the past first month is incredible. Then there’s all the blogs that I read. My blog reading patterns have changed since I started my studies here. Apart from all the tech blogs that I used to read, I’ve started learning a lot more from the ‘behavioral’ blogs I’ve discovered. This is probably the reason behind my reduced blogging – I am now trying to add value to my readers through personal experiences, just like these blogs add value to me. Observing these people, their actions, their words, their work is a lot more fulfilling than breaking my head over. Again, my perspective has changed over the past few months. For the better, I would say.

Despite all the depression that school work is bringing on with itself, I am quite happy with my life right now. The hopeless optimist that I am, I feel good about the pain. I am the only person that can shield myself from that depression. After all, success at PASUM is a lot less about skills and knowledge and a lot more about attitude. Heck, success in life is a lot less about skills and knowledge and a lot more about attitude. It’s a rough ride, but I am getting there.

I just finished Math subjects in Test 1. Looking forward on Mid-Term Semester Exam.

Yesterday was a first day lectures in Pusat Asasi Sains Universiti Malaya (PASUM). First day, I felt really enjoyed through the whole day. The classes started at 11.00 am since there were no any tutorials or labs for the first two weeks. A good start for me actually. =)

I don’t want to compare it with my first day in UTP but honestly, I need to come earlier for lectures here if I want to get the front seat. Yeah, this time everything is totally different especially on education system.

Seems like I’m not updating this blog for a long time. A week busy with Minggu Haluan Siswa in University of Malaya + no internet connection in my room finally I’m connected!

Yesterday I went to Low Yat Plaza to upgrade my phone’s firmware. I know that I’ve a great phone, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. It does everything that iPhone can; from internet browsing to GPS system that can navigate me anywhere that I want.

Well, after upgrading the firmware (V20.xx -> V50.xx), I noticed that there were many features that I missed out before. Haha, maybe because I’m lazy to upgrade it myself.

It’s hard to believe that I’m not UTPian anymore. Well, yesterday was my last day in UTP. During 5 months here, I really enjoyed my life. I met a lot of friends from different backgrounds, races and even geographical backgrounds. Sabahan and Sarawakian also nice to be a-friend for me.

But, it was the past and became memories for myself. We can’t back to the past and need to continue our life in future. Yeah, I’m a positive thinker. Day before yesterday, I still at Kelana Jaya for self-reflecting. I was thinking about my future and what I want to-be. Alhamdulillah, Allah swt shows the best for me, I guess. I got an offer to continue my studies in University of Malaya for Foundation in Physical Science.

Hurm, I think I will take the offer since I’m not hoping too high for MARA PILN results. Well, we need to change sometimes even though we are in the safe places.

Don’t ask me why I left UTP but please ask the question to Petronas itself.

Many stumble upon this question and started to crap about anything without considering the title or the idea that they should follow. Maybe something like misguided while rambling or simply lack of ideas.

I still remember last time when I was about to post a new entry in my blog a sudden idea suddenly rushed into my spine towards my brain. All I did was adjusting here and there from the older post to manifest another so-called more genuine idea which turned out to be worse.

I could notice some parts where I rambled about my life were sandwiched between lines of me talking about life and internet.

I think this is why I am never good at blogging. I can’t seem to arrange my words properly and the thought of conveying the idea itself has already been a big failure.

I hope that this time that will not happen, otherwise my number of reader counts will not be a blast anymore (although it never happened lol).

Things have gone quite obsolete these days. All my plans turn out pretty bad. It seems like nature has taken control on me making me unable to even fulfill my tasks. Most of my time is wasted in front of the laptop especially when I’m unaware of my surrounding and the time I’m wasting.

I’m not sure if this is happening to everyone because this does happen to me all the time. I will wish and pray that I’d be doing something good or at least cherish my time before the final exam week come to the end but ironically when everything is over all my plans are simply ignored.

Is this a form of a disease or I am simply creating one? It reminds me of a hadith narrated by Abdullah bin Abbas (Radiallau Anhu). He reports that Rasulullah said,

“There are two bounties of Allah wherein most people are deceived, health and free time”.

The questions is, am I being the hypocrites by letting my guard down to be deceived by my own wealth or I simply play ignorant about my surrounding and let nature to take toll on me? Well, are we in the same group?

Back to the main point, Adobe Inc. has introduced new features for Photoshop CS5; Content-Aware Fill, Cutout and Refine Edge, HDR PRO (High Dynamic Range), improved Spot Healing and Fill Tool, just to name a few. Nothing much to say, I’m pretty sure that there are a lot of reviews on the net about Photoshop CS5 features. So, just ask Mr. Google and you will find it a lot of reviews elsewhere.

The interface above is not much different from the previous version, CS4. Some of the functions have been improved such as Lens Correction, new-style crop tool and vanishing point (changes that I have noticed so far). Owh, I need extra-time to explore it by myself. =)

I’m not 100 percent assured of what compelled me to write this. Maybe I spend my time during the journey to IIUM (listening the whole album, haha) , or maybe it was my indescribable desire for positivity in a world of music where it’s definitely lacking as the norm. Either way, here it goes.

Owl City, the musical alias of Adam Young, released his Universal Republic debut Ocean Eyes in 2009. The full-length is jam-packed with layers and layers of synthesizers, MIDI programming, and an innocent vocal flair. What makes this a bit different from most electronica acts is its undeniable driving rhythm, especially in tracks “Cave In” and “Hello, Seattle” along with guest vocals from the very similar sounding Matt Thiessen of Relient K.

Young uses a combination of analog instruments, such as guitars and drums, mixed with artificial drum loops and sweetly composed synths (see the track “Saltwater Room”), for the goal of making a lasting impact amongst the young at heart. The ethereal mix is undeniably catchy, and I just can’t help but see The Postal Service resurrected in Young’s compositions. The only difference between these two acts is that Young tends to get simplistic with his lyrics. Other than this, fans of the Gibbard/Tamborello duo would find Owl City quite refreshing.

Ocean Eyes begins with “Cave In,” which can only be referred to as the perfect lead-off track, personifying all that Ocean Eyes was intended for, i.e. digital symphony. “The Bird and the Worm,” which was written by both Young and Thiessen, starts with an acoustic guitar before mixing the “Mac Attack” programming loops. “Hello, Seattle” is one of the best tracks on the album with the rhythm and hooks clicking on all cylinders. “Umbrella Beach” is a dance-club anthem; all that’s missing is a waving glowstick. The album slows down a bit with “The Saltwater Room,” a beautiful track with guest vocals from Breanne Duren (Swimming With Dolphins).

“Dental Care” is a pretty simple track about a trip to the dentist an ode to good oral hygiene, I suppose. My personal favorite is “Vanilla Twilight,” a beautifully layered track similar to “Hello, Seattle,” but it adds just a bit of electronic charisma and those darn synths. “Fireflies,” the single off of Ocean Eyes, starts off very lullaby-esque before breaking into a powerful chorus, as Young sings “I’d like to make myself believe / That Planet Earth turns slowly / It’s hard to say that I’d / Rather stay awake when I’m asleep / ‘Cause everything is never as it seems“.

The rest of Ocean Eyes flails a little bit and tends to be more redundant than pleasant. However overall, this is a solid album.

Time is passing so fast that I didn’t realize at all the fact that test 2 is just around the corner. I’ve been so busy doing other unnecessary stuffs like computer, internet and programming and other thingy. I couldn’t even imagine myself until I almost forgotten the oncoming challenge.

Apart from all the worries that is surging me now, I somehow feel a bit happy deep inside my heart. Yesterday was a good day for me; finished the last pre-calculus assignment. At least I’m free now, for a while. =P

This week will gonna be a week for JPA PILN interviews session. I wished good luck to all my friends especially to PRODIGY and also not forgotten to my friends in UTP here. I hope you all will make the right decision to pursue your tertiary studies soon.

CRAFT, which I believe that is a good platform for art lovers like me them to show their art skills. For lomography lovers, one of the interesting events is ShutterBug Mega Wall Photo. The stuffs there really cool though because all of the wall pictures there were taken using lomography camera.

Not much to say, there are a lot of things to do after mid-semester break in UTP and I’m kinda afraid I don’t have enough hands and time to make it all. I have English drama, an assignment which not complete yet and also busy working on one corporate website for my client. Huh. Too much things to do at the same time!

Last few days by the way, I went to my former school for the SPM results. The journey took about 5 hours++ from Batu Gajah Station to Seremban (yeah, I took KTM Train) which was delayed for 90 minutes. OMG, 90 minutes! Yeah, it’s true and I’m filled my time with enjoying movies from my friend’s laptop. Haha, at least I’m not bored waiting for the train.

And yeah, the UTP’s wireless internet here is getting slower, slower and slower. Need a lot of time to wait especially when I want to download some documents for my scholarship applications. Heh

Perhaps I need to subscribe for broadband services. Any suggestion?
